Rest Day in Jodhpur

Rest day in the bustling city of Jodhpur. We took a tour to see the Mehrangarah Fort. The fort stands on a hilltop rising about the city and spans an area of 1200 acres. Most of the existing structure is from the 17th century.

Next we took a walking tour through narrow streets with painted blue houses with murals. The houses were originally painted blue to indicate that Hindu priests or Brahmins lived there. The blue color may also have been used to repel termites, which are a problem in the city’s hot semi-arid climate.

Then some walking through the streets of the market, getting a lassi and eating some samosas.

Tomorrow we’ll be back on the bikes for a 3 day riding section.
