Day 14 - Banswara to Ratlam

Wedding procession across from our hotel in Ratlam.

Another beautiful day in India. We left the state of Rajasthan and crossed over into the state of Madhya Pradesh, which is Subtropical. We also crossed over the Tropic of Cancer.

The Tropic of Cancer, also known as the Northern Tropic, is the Earth's northernmost circle of latitude where the Sun can be seen directly overhead. This occurs on the June solstice, when the Northern Hemisphere is tilted toward the Sun to its maximum extent.

We rode through a lot of agricultural fields today, cotton, wheat, sorghum.

It’s also wedding season in India right now. In almost every town we have been through there has been wedding music, processions and dancing and late night fireworks.

I rode to lunch today and barely made it. My saddle sores have gotten infinitely worse so I’m not riding tomorrow.

The following day is a rest day so that will give me two days off the bike and hopefully they will get better.

Today I rode 41.52 miles with 1,684 feet of climbing.

My friend Alison had a flat today and while we were stopped a mass of school kids surrounded us with curiosity.

Myself and Baba the tour mechanic and today's sweep rider at the Tropic of Cancer

  2. I'm so impressed with you Erin. you are doing it. It doesn't matter if you ride to lunch and then rest, what matters is that you get to experience the world over there. Riding is supposed to be enjoyable, let yourself enjoy it when you can and then rest your body. You ROCK!!! I wouldn't have made it out of the Portland airport.:)

  3. Keep hanging in there, Erin! I can only imagine how the difficulty increased with the saddle sores. 💗
